Our guided tour gives you the stories behind the exhibits. You’ll discover how the University of Arizona became a world leader in astronomy, earth science, ecology, and planetary science – and why Space Is Wildcat Country.
Tour Time: 2 hour tour time – One hour special guided tour, one hour “Arizona Explores Space” special planetarium show.
Tour Rate: $18 Guided Tour includes all exhibits, special guided tour, and special planetarium show.
Tour recommended for visitors 10 years old and above.
We’ll take you from Earth to Space and back – and you’ll see the world in a whole new way.
On the tour at Flandrau Science Center & Planetarium you’ll learn about the rich history of scientific innovation in Southern Arizona.
- Did you know that the University of Arizona mapped the moon for the Space Race to land the first humans on the moon with the Apollo 11 mission ?
- Did you know that there is more biodiversity (more plants, animals, insects, birds, etc.) in Southern Arizona than anywhere else in the United States?
- Did you know the University of Arizona leads NASA missions?
Those are some of the stories you’ll hear. And you’ll learn about exciting new science happening at UA, like NASA’s groundbreaking OSIRIS-REx mission. For the first time ever, the OSIRIS-REx spacecraft will capture a sample from a primitive asteroid and bring that sample back to Earth for analysis. The University of Arizona conceived of the mission, and now leads the mission for NASA!
And the tour group will experience a special planetarium show in Flandrau’s state-of-the-art Eos Foundation Planetarium Theater. The theater was fully renovated in 2016, and thanks to the state-of-the-art fulldome digital projection system, it delivers an immersive sensory experience that visitors will never forget. This special “Arizona Explores Space” show highlights UAZ’s leading role in the exploration of our solar system.
